Treasurer Smith is Encouraging Iowans to Make Saving with IAble a Team Effort – It’s a Slam Dunk!
DES MOINES, Iowa – State Treasurer Roby Smith is reminding Iowans that saving with IAble, Iowa’s Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) plan, can be a team effort. “Saving doesn’t have to be an individual sport. With an IAble account, others can assist an Account Owner – the team’s MVP – in reaching their best life experience,” said Smith. “As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work. In IAble, teamwork helps make the dream of greater financial freedom work!”
Together, Account Owners and their support systems can save and allow individuals with disabilities to maintain their eligibility for federal assistance programs such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. Funds in IAble are then tax-free when used for Qualified Disability Expenses like housing, food, support services, assistive technology and any other expense that helps improve or maintain health, independence or quality of life.
“Family and friends can create a full-court press by using Ugift® for contributions to the IAble account of their MVP,” Smith added. “The best part about Ugift? It’s a free, secure and easy way to show your loved ones you support them, a slam dunk.” For more information about Ugift, visit IAble.gov/resources/give-a-gift.
Those making gift contributions to their MVP’s Account get an easy lay-up with a tax deduction from their Iowa state income taxes. “Any Iowa taxpayer can deduct up to $4,028 of their IAble contributions from their 2024 state taxable income,” concluded Smith. “Everyone wins when the team works together!”
