Conservative Option

Moderately Conservative Pie Chart - 30% Bonds, 10% Stocks, 60% Cash


The Investment Option seeks to provide substantial capital preservation, limited current income and very low capital appreciation.


The Investment Option allocates approximately 10% of its assets to stocks, 30% of its assets to investment-grade bonds and 60% to cash. This option invests in the following funds:

  • 3.50% Vanguard Institutional Index Fund (VIIIX)

  • 3.00% Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund (VEMPX)

  • 1.80% iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (IEFA)

  • 0.70% Schwab Emerging Markets Equity ETF (SCHE)

  • 1.00% Schwab US REIT ETF (SCHH)

  • 9.00% Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund (VBMPX)

  • 7.50% Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund (VBIPX)

  • 10.50% Vanguard Short-Term Inflation-Protected Securities Index Fund (VTAPX)

  • 3.00% iShares Core International Aggregate Bond ETF (IAGG)

  • 60.00% Sallie Mae High Yield Savings Account
